First: How do we make our extracts?
We start by only using mushrooms that we grow or forage here at Mycelial Minds. All of our extracts are made utilizing a double extraction method that isolates as many of our mushroom’s bioactive compounds as possible. Our first step is to dehydrate our mushrooms and grind them into a powder, which makes them easier and safer to extract and also increases the surface area of the mushrooms, leading to higher compound extraction rates. Next, we extract the water soluble compounds, such as beta-glucans, by simmering the mushroom powder in a hot water bath. Additionally, we extract the non-water soluble compounds, such as triterpenes, sterols, and flavonoids, by combining the mushroom powder with ethanol alcohol. Finally, we combine the alcohol and water, resulting in a 20% alcohol solution with all of the bioactive compounds intact.
